Today Winmalee 1A, 1B, PC and East 1 responded to a reported fire and column of smoke coming from the Blue Gum Swamp area Winamlee.
Unfortunately due to the potential of smoke drifting onto Sydney a decision was made by RFS Headquarters to cancel the Winmalee burn for this weekend. Winmalee RFB would like to thank the Springwood Soccer Club for their understanding and changing the dates of their annual presentation so this weekends planned burn could proceed, we apologise for any inconvenience the cancellation of this burn may cause to your members. We would also like to thank everyone who has volunteered their time, assisting in the preparations and was prepared to take time out of their busy lives to assist in this burn, many of you from areas outside the Winmalee community. If you would like further explanation regarding this decision you can contact RFS HQ on 1800 679 737 or 8741-5555 or Blue Mountains RFS 4784 7444
This decision is very disappointing as the forecast is for perfect weather conditions and the window of opportunity may not arise again for some time.
The hazard reduction planned for this weekend 14-16 September has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances!
