Firefighters get rough treatment from thieves
WHEN the South Bowenfels Rural Fire Service answered the call to help protect people’s property from bushfire at Winmalee, the last thing they expected when they got back from the flames was for some low-lifes to have broken into their shed and cars.

We were thankful for the assistance… What a shame there are people like this in our communities

Good afternoon everyone. There has been a constant …

Good afternoon everyone. There has been a constant stream of residents viewing our Community Engagement Notice Board outside Coles at the Winmalee Village Centre. A very large map is on display that shows the extent of the fires and the fully contained line now surrounding those fires. The UPDATE for this afternoon is currently being signed off by the Incident Controller and should posted on the notice board late this afternoon or early evening. The notice board will remain in place until the emergency is officially declared as over. Please continue to monitor the situation and if you have not already done so, please complete and/or review your BUSHFIRE SURVIVAL PLAN. Summer has not yet started and we all need to be “on our toes”. Thank You.

Good morning. Not everyone was able to attend …

Good morning. Not everyone was able to attend the meeting at the High School last night and a few residents have asked if information from the meeting will be made available. We will endeavour to establish whether a more detailed report is forthcoming. In the meantime we can report the following –

As at approx 6pm last night the fire was declared as fully contained. Patrols will continue for as long as required.

Endeavour Energy has completed the power restoration and has replaced some timber poles with concrete poles. Well done EA.

Telstra can now work on their communications which may have been attached to these same poles.

The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is being jointly handled by Police and the RFS Fire Investigation Team and will involve all agencies. The results of the investigation will go to the NSW Coroner, as is normal for all fires. This information should be available shortly.

Once the current update of the Blue Mountains Bushfire Risk Management Plan is completed, a DRAFT will be made available to all residents for comment. This is a process that all Council areas in NSW are required to complete.

Yellow Rock residents expressed their concerns regarding the single road in and out of their area along with other issues and these concerns will be addressed at a community meeting that will be arranged following the DRAFT Risk Plan mentioned above.

Finally, thank you to you our residents & friends for your co-operation and assistance during the fires. This is acknowledged by Winmalee Brigade, all the visiting RFS brigades, Fire Rescue NSW, National Parks, Police and all agencies involved. Thank You.
