UPDATE ON LINKSVIEW FIRE WINMALEE – Crews are currently starting back burning operations between Winmalee High School and Lee Road. This will help to secure properties under immediate threat and will create more smoke in the area.

All High Schools and Primary schools in the area will be closed tomorrow along with Bunya and Rainbow Day Care Centres.

Tonight Winmalee 1A and a crew of 5 have been tasked to the fire at Lithgow. For a 12 hour shift.

FYI – A total fire ban and fire weather warning has been issued for tomorrow, Thursday 17/10/2013. For the Greater Sydney Region which includes the Blue Mountains.

FYI – large amounts of smoke are currently being pushed down the Gross Valley and into the Winmalee Area. This smoke is from the Lithgow Fire. There is no Fire at Faulconbridge. FYI – Winmalee and surrounds are currently experiencing Smoke Drift from a large Bush Fire burning in the Lithgow District. There is a large plume visible from Winmalee. Remember if you see a fire unattended dial 000 straight away.

FYI – The Great Western Highway is closed in both Directions at Woodford, due to a 2 car MVA. Significant delays.

Yesterday Winmalee 1A deployed to Valley Heights RFB to form part of a strike team. At 1730hrs Winmalee was responded to reports of Bush Alight along Hawkesbury Rd, Hawkesbury Heights. On arrival crews found a patch of bush burning within the burnt area of the previous fire. Crews extinguished the fire with the assistance of Blaxland RFB.

Tomorrow will be a TOTAL FIRE BAN, a fire weather warning has been issued. National Parks in the Blue Mountains Area are closed due to conditions. Prepare a Bush Fire Survival Plan Now. Please share with family and friends.
