By now the residents of Winmalee, Yellow Rock & Hawkesbury Heights would have received the brigades Calendar for 2014. If you did not receive a copy or need a replacement please email us at info@winmaleerfs.com.au with your name & address and we will drop one around before Christmas. For our friends & residents who have lost their homes we will arrange to get a calendar to you in the mail.
The theme of the Calendar is “Together, on the Road to Recovery” symbolised by the regrowth that you will see on all the trees in our area that were impacted by fire.
The back of the calendar has some important Bushfire Recovery Information that you may need right now. Please contact the Recovery Centre for more detailed advice and information.
We would like to thank our calendar sponsors this year, all of whom are brigade members, who along with all our brigade members and the NSW Rural Fire Service wish you the best for the coming season as we recover, together.
The calendar delivery was handled by a great bunch of people who volunteered to help out our members following the fires. They made a great start today and it looks like there a few areas left to go. All calendars should be delivered shortly

FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins joined Federal Minister for Justice, Michael Keenan and NSW Attornery General, Greg Smith at the launch of the Emergency + smartphone app this morning [December 6] at City Of Sydney fire station.
The free app was developed because more than 65% of triple zero callls now come from mobile phones, and many mobile callers are driving, pasing by or just generally not aware of their exact location, particluarly in the panic of reporting an emergency.
Determining caller location is the most critical piece of information emergency call-takers need. If they do not know where you are, they can’t send help.
The app uses existing smartphone techonology to priovide an exact GPS reference to the caller who can then relay that information to call takers. Operators can then get appliances rolling out the door and on scene that much faster, and be ready to take the next caller on line.
This app also contains contact numbers and a short explanantion of when to call non-emergency numbers like the Police assistance line and the SES national number. This will stop triple zero operators being tied up with non-emergency calls.
The app was developed by the Triple Zero Awareness Work Group, a nationl body chaired by FRNSW Assistant Commissioner Mark Whybro.
The original prototype of the app was built with funding from FRNSW and software developer 360 Entertainment. Costs were then covered by a National Emergency Management Project grant from the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department.
