Update:

Donald Luscombe please refer to previous posts in regard to the smoke in the air. Hopefully as the hazard reduction dies down so to the smoke will disperse. Unfortunately the cooler air pushes the smoke down low instead of allowing it to rise into the atmosphere.

Another view of the hazard reduction referred to in an earlier post.

Update:

Christie, our apologies for bringing back those memories. Part of the recovery process for us is to ensure that we mitigate the effects of wildfire so that less and less residents have to go through that type of event in the future. Hopefully we will be able to do more hazard reduction burns before the onset of next summer and give us all a quieter Christmas.

A pager message received from Katoomba Firecom just a short while ago.

For your information, the large column of smoke visible to our south is a combination of the hazard reductions at Little Crater, west of Warragamba and Mount Bedford, South of Woodford. National Parks & Wildlife and NSW Rural Fire Service report that the burn is progressing well.

Update:

To find out more please go to the Fires Near Me ap on your smartphone or iPhone. This ia a FREE AP available for most mobile phones and iPads with WiFi.

A photo taken by one of the crew …

A photo taken by one of the crew at the Hazard Reduction (HR) we assisted Linden Brigade with last Tuesday evening. As you can see the ground fuel and understory burnt very well and achieved the desired result. That was to reduce the fuel that a Bushfire feeds on and to do it under controlled conditions. The additional benefit from this exercise is that our crews gain invaluable experience in dealing with live fire and particularly our newer members who have passed their basic training.

Update:

My apologies, you are correct. We were assisting Faulconbridge Brigade. Thank you for the correction.
