When preparing your bushfire survival plan, don’t forget to include your pets. Where will they go? How will you get them there? What happens if evacuation is required? Most evacuation centres do not have the facilities to take in pets. It is your responsibility to have a plan to keep them safe. This helpful fact sheet gives you ideas on what can be done to help our furry friends during a bushfire.

Do you know someone who may benefit from this Free Service? –
The AIDER (Assist Infirm, Disabled and Elderly Residents) program is a free, one-off service which supports some of our most at-risk community members.
The program helps people live more safely and confidently in their home in areas where bush fires may start.
The AIDER program is designed for people who have limited domestic support available from family, relatives, friends or other services. This could include older people, people living with a disability, and people who are already receiving community assistance and services. Their property must also be on bush fire prone land (land that can support a bush fire or be subject to bush fire attack).
AIDER Services can include –
•clearing gutters
•thinning vegetation around the home
•removing leaf and tree debris
•trimming branches from close to the home
•mowing or slashing long grass.

Due to the fantastic response to our first post, we have included some more snakes found locally in the Blue Mountains area. Please make sure to ‘like’ our page for more informative posts relating to bushfire and our natural environment of the Blue Mountains.
Some of these snakes are mildly venomous, although, with the exception of the Small-eyed Snake they are not considered dangerous. The lower 4 pictures are smaller snakes growing to less than 1 metre. The Yellow-faced Whip and Golden-crowned Snakes are often mistaken for young Eastern Brown Snake…these are timid snakes, with a more nocturnal nature. Over the fire season we will be posting general information to assist with the preparedness of your home. If there is anything you would like information on let us know and we will try to schedule it in. Thank you again to our Facebook community for the ongoing support.

We have been busy, busy, busy getting the Yellow Rock rural fire station completed, which has now been achieved. We would once again like to acknowledge the tireless efforts and support of businesses both local and further afield and the community who have provided continued support to the Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade for without this support, this project would have not been achievable.

We ask that if you are looking to complete any work around the home, to please consider supporting these businesses.

It has been a long are tiring project and one which we have been very humbled by the support, but extremely proud to be able to provide our community with this fantastic new resource. Whilst, many hands went into making the station a reality, the brigade would like to thank long serving brigade member, Neil Taylor, for his efforts of making the station come together, 24 years was a long time to wait. For all the members past and present who have pushed for this community resource…We did it!

Its Been a long time coming, but construction of the Yellow Rock Rural Fire Station has commenced.

Since 1994, Winmalee RFB have serviced the area of Yellow Rock with a truck located at Winmalee RFB members, Martin and Sue Fabers property on Singles Ridge Road.

Ownership of the property transferred to the Brown family, who continued this support.

This property along with the station shelter was lost during the October 2013 bushfires.

Since this time, Winmalee RFB members have been working tirelessly to secure a designated site to locate the replacement station.

With thanks to Oasis Nursery, this has been achieved, and construction has commenced this past week.

This would not have been possible without the generous donations of the wider community. We will be posting progress photos, with mention of the businesses whom have contributed to the completion of the station.

We are grateful for these generous contributions and encourage you to support these business if you require these services.

Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade added 6 new photos.

Today we had Heathcote 1 alpha come up to Winmalee for a bit of show and tell. Heathcote’s category 1 tanker is unique in the fact it is able to use a compressed air foam system, which enables it to put down a thick layer of foam for property protection.

You may consider the option to stay and defend your property. Before making this decision it is important to ensure your property is well prepared and you have the physical and mental capabilities to defend your property. Have a back up plan: include your triggers in your bushfire survival plan

Part of your bushfire survival plan should include your decision to leave early. Leaving it until the last minute increases the risk of accidents, while smoke and falling debris may render roads impassable. Consider what your “triggers” will be, and make it part of your plan.
