New laws are being finalised to help people living in bush fire prone areas better prepare their properties. These laws are not in operation yet.

Please read carefully. It still has not made it all the way through, but it is one step closer

Update:

A BAL rating can be reduced by the distance from the bush (hazard) to a house..However one or two trees do not necessarily constitute bush, as an asset protection zone still incorporates trees. In order to assess a BAL rating the bush for 140 meters is looked at, and the only land that can be used to reduce your BAL rating must be part of your land. Ie you cannot remove bush on adjoining blocks to reduce your BAL rating. These laws will still only involve your land unless other approvals/agreents are sought

Ken you would then have to go through already existing processes. Apply to your local NSW Rural Fire Service Fire Control Centre and speak with a fire mitigation officer. They will be able to guide you through the process.
