Posted: 11/09/2013
Firefighters are working to fully contain a bush fire burning in the area around Winmalee and Hawkesbury Heights in the Blue Mountains. A Watch and Act alert is in place due to an increase in winds this afternoon.

Current Situation

The fire has burnt through more than 900 hectares of bushland. The fire is not fully contained.

Gusty winds are affecting the fire and there will be an increase in fire activity.

Over 230 firefighters are working to consolidate containment lines around the fire in the Hawkesbury Road and Yellow Rock areas, including along the Nepean River. This includes backburning and the use of three waterbombing aircraft.

There were reports of a home being destroyed in the fire however it appears this property may have only sustained damage.

Hawkesbury Road is now open however smoke is causing reduced visibility. Visit www.livetraffic.com for traffic information.
